Our policy is that children should have unrestricted access to their own inhalers. We advise that children carry small inhalers around with them at all times either in a ‘bum bag’ or in their pocket. Larger inhalers need to be kept to hand in class. All our teaching staff have received some training from health professionals.
If a doctor prescribes medicines for your child, they may, at the discretion of the Head Teacher, be administered at school. These should always be clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage, and handed directly to the school office. A form will need to be signed by the parent.
If your child is off school due to sickness, please notify the school office as soon as possible by what ever method is convenient for you (e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, /telephone message/in person are all acceptable).
If your child has a medical appointment during school hours please let either the class teacher or school office know. The school reserves the right to ask to see the appointment card/letter.
If there is any other information that we should know about in respect of your child’s health, i.e. allergies, please advise the school office and your child’s teacher.
Our Medical Needs Policy sets out in more detail how we support children with specific medical needs.
