Reading
Read as much as you can. Read by yourself. Read to someone. Get someone to read to you. Fall in love with books. If you’re looking for some great reads, here is a link (click the icon below) to highly recommended reads for years 5 and 6.
Click here for lots more reading materials. Get unlimited access to 40,000 of the best books, audiobooks, videos, & more for kids 12 and under. Teachers have shared passwords with the children so you can access it for free.
Once you have read a book, add your review to our ‘BOOK REVIEW BLOG’, which you can find under the green ‘sharing’ menu in Purple Mash. We’d love to know which books you are really enjoying and perhaps you will inspire someone else to choose the same book!
Spelling
Your Year 5/6 Spelling words are here and a spelling menu full of fun and creative activities to help you learn them can be found here. If you prefer, you can find a booklet to work through here: Year 5-6 Spelling words.
You should also make sure you know the Year 3/4 Spelling words, which you can find here.
Grammar
There are lots of grammar activities to work through on Purple Mash, but if you would prefer a booklet to work through, you can download one here–> Spelling and Grammar
Writing
If you’re looking for some inspiration for some exciting writing then choose a picture from www.pobble365.com or a story starter from Creative-Writing-Prompts and see what flows from your pen – don’t forget you can share it with us via email to the office or via Purple Mash and we would love to have some good enough to publish on the website!
For more structured English activities you could work through this Year 6 Summer Activity Booklet or Year 5 Summer English Activity Booklet.

Computing
This is an excellent opportunity to learn a new skill such as coding. Choose any of the little games and apps within 2Code. Have a play and learn about each of the buttons. Each app has a little task.
I would also recommend working through the Mash Club coding club resources – these are found at the bottom of the computing section of Purple Mash. If you can email me any thing you create I will put it on the notice board for others to play!
Ideas for even more things to do!
