CEO Weekly Update 30/09/18
Thanks to the hard work, high aspirations and creativity of teachers, leaders, Teaching Assistants and staff, pupils across our Trust are demonstrating a thirst for and love of learning.
Staplegrove’s Year 6 pupils spent last week in the Isle of Wight. They experienced an exciting range of adventurous on-site activities and visited local attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle, Osbourne and The Needles. They had a fantastic week and were credit to their school – showing excellent team work, problem solving skills and friendship. The trip was a huge success.

As part of their topic ‘Once Upon A Time’, Year 1 pupils’ at Holy Trinity Church School in Yeovil have been busy creating new shoe designs for the Shoemaker and exploring collage techniques to create scenes from Little Red Riding Hood. During their Science lessons, they experimented with materials to discover which would be most suitable to make a new umbrella for Goldilocks. In addition to all this, they also enjoyed a visiting production of Pinocchio – especially a dazzling performance from Head teacher, Mr Beauford in ‘The Shark Song’!
At the end of a busy week that also saw them on the hunt for signs of Autumn in the school grounds and making their own Harvest Baskets, the children presented class wreaths at the school’s Harvest Festival Church service.
In the school hall at Kingshill children have created a wonderful new ‘Cross of Hands’. Children drew round their hands, cut them out, decorated then assembled them to make a giant cross. It is beautiful and symbolises their vision of ‘Growing Together, Belonging and Achieving’
Pupils at Court De Wyck have been learning how to make different types of rolls including plaiting and making bread in the shape of hedgehogs. These will be used as part of the Harvest Festival celebrations.
At Horsington, as in many or the Trust schools, staff have been acting on our recent reflections about how high quality learning environments support, engage and celebrate pupils’ achievements. I look forward to sharing their work with you very soon.
In every classroom, every school, every hub, every day, it is what you all – teachers, support staff and leaders – do that has the potential to make learning happen, to make learning come alive for our pupils. When we get it right, a creative, imaginative, challenging curriculum nurtures mind, body and spirit, high quality teaching responds to learners needs and interests, learning environments motivate, inspire and celebrate each pupil’s progress. Together these create a thirst for and a love of learning in our pupils that opens up the way for them to reach to achieve their very best.
